Honoring Service With Compassionate Care

Veterans often carry life experiences, memories, and challenges that can shape how they approach serious illness and end-of-life care. At Transitions LifeCare, we recognize the importance of honoring that service while providing compassionate support tailored to each veteran’s needs. The organization’s veterans program includes recognition efforts, one-on-one veteran volunteer connections, and ceremonies that acknowledge military service in meaningful ways.

Our team understands that support can mean more than medical care alone. It can also mean creating opportunities for veterans to share their stories, reflect on their experiences, and be recognized with dignity. Through veteran-to-veteran connections, pinning ceremonies, and community events, Transitions LifeCare helps ensure veterans and their families feel seen, honored, and supported throughout their care journey.

Honoring veterans and the families who carry their legacy forward

The Veterans Garden on our Raleigh campus is filled with bricks purchased by families to honor loved ones who served in the military. Each branch of the armed forces is represented on our flag post.

How We Honor Veterans

Veteran Recognition

To help provide a quality of care and support that reflects the important contributions made by these men and women, Transitions LifeCare is committed to veteran recognition. Through this commitment, we acknowledge the unique needs of our nation’s veterans who are facing a life-limiting illness. By honoring their service and understanding their experiences, Transitions LifeCare is able to accompany and guide veterans and their families toward a more peaceful and meaningful end-of-life journey.

Bricks

It is with great pride that our Veterans Garden honors veterans, their families, and loved ones. You can become part of a special group of donors who want to make sure future generations never forget the sacrifices made to ensure their freedom. Bricks are either installed along the pathway or under the branch of service you select near the base of the flagpole. Order your brick to be displayed in the Veterans Garden.

Individual Ceremonies

Upon family request, a veteran volunteer meets with the veteran patient, providing an opportunity for the sharing of stories. This one-on-one, veteran-to-veteran experience creates a safe space for the veteran to reminisce. The veteran volunteer also conducts a pinning ceremony, presenting a certificate of appreciation and a lapel pin to the veteran.

Corporate Ceremonies

Our Veterans Day ceremonies recognize and honor more than 300 veterans annually at several local facilities. We also host a Memorial Day ceremony on our campus at the Veterans Garden. The ceremony honors, remembers, and celebrates those who have served through speakers, proclamations, and rituals. Members of our community and families who have donated a brick of remembrance to honor their loved veterans are invited to attend.

Veteran Volunteers

If you are a veteran who would like to volunteer with Transitions LifeCare, you can help us recognize our patients who are also veterans by: utilizing a military history checklist at admission, helping with recognition events like pinning ceremonies and certificate presentations, sharing military stories with the patient, helping create a legacy for the patient’s family and by reaching out to other community organizations.
