Complex Illness Care: Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to what families ask most

Who is a candidate for complex illness care?

Complex Illness Care may be appropriate for patients with advanced, chronic, or life-limiting illness who need additional support managing symptoms, care decisions, and quality of life.

Can I continue seeing my current doctors?

Yes. Complex Illness Care works alongside your existing medical team. Patients may continue seeing their providers and receiving treatment while receiving this added layer of support.

Is this the same as hospice care?

No. Hospice care is generally for patients who are no longer seeking curative treatment and are focused on comfort near the end of life. Complex Illness Care can begin earlier and may be provided alongside ongoing treatment.

What symptoms can Complex Illness Care help manage?

The team can help with symptoms related to serious illness, including pain, shortness of breath, anxiety, depression, appetite loss, and other concerns.

How often will the team visit?

Visits are based on each patient’s individual needs, symptoms, and care goals.
